Detailed Description

The 1971 Cessna 177RG is the retractable‑gear evolution of the Cardinal series, designed to deliver higher cruise speeds and a cleaner aerodynamic profile than the earlier fixed‑gear models. Its 200 hp Lycoming IO‑360 engine is further enhanced by the Tornado Alley Turbo III system, giving the aircraft strong high‑altitude performance and improved climb capability. The addition of GAMI fuel injectors provides smoother fuel distribution, better mixture balance, and more efficient operation across a wide range of power settings. The Cardinal's strutless cantilever wing, excellent visibility, and wide 90‑degree cabin doors make it exceptionally comfortable and accessible for both pilots and passengers. Pilots value it for its blend of speed, handling, and modernized engine performance that elevates the classic Cardinal design. The aircraft is fully IFR equipped, making it suitable for advanced training and reliable cross‑country operations in varying weather conditions.

Remarks

No known accident history

Complied with AD 23-02-17, Carry-Thru Spar Fatigue Cracking, effective 03/20/23, by visual inspection and inspection of previous actions; Corrosion protection performed on 12/9/2020 and eddy current inspection performed on 03/05/2024 in accordance with SEL-57-09. No defect noted and completed carry-thru spar inspection report.

The Prop was replaced because the original showed a minor oil leak and failed to meet inspection specifications. Since it had reached its overhaul interval, purchasing a new propeller was more cost‑effective than performing an overhaul.

Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis Details are in the Documents tab. The oil analysis has been good as you will see in the comments from Blackstone. From the July 2026 Annual at 2659 hours: "We like what we're seeing coming from this Lycoming engine as of 7/2/26, the sample date. The wear metals are in good form compared to past results and they look okay compered to universal averages for the engine type. There isn't any contamination to point out. The 0.4% insolubles reading show adequate oil filtration. Nice results."
