1981 Schleicher ASW-20A

Description

This ASW-20 was bought new by Ulli Werneburg, Canadian Schleicher dealer and 7 times Canadian National Gliding Champion. Ulli Werneburg flew this ASW-20 in the 1981 Gliding World Championship in Paderborn, West Germany.

This ASW-20 spent most of its life at the Gatineau Gliding Club, housed year round in the club’s large World War 2 hangar, assembled in the summer, in its trailer in the winter.

This ASW-20 was fully striped and repainted, the trailer was repainted during the winter of 2025, including the cockpit, by XU Aviation & Jet Stream Detailing, for a total of $37,291.90. In the summer of 2025, a ceramic finish was professionally applied to the entire airframe. This ASW-20 received all new gap seals after the repainting. In 2025 a new instrument panel was installed at which time the Winters instruments were overhauled at the factory in Germany. This sailplane is equipped with a Becker AR4201 radio, a Kobo Mini with XCSoar, LX7007 Pro, LX Nav Nano 3 and a PowerFlarm. The Sofie 240 Long parachute was repacked in March 2025.
