About the M-20J Allegro
The Mooney M-20J Allegro is a type-certificated, fixed-wing aircraft featuring a low-wing layout and tricycle landing gear. Manufactured in the United States by the Mooney International Corporation, it is configured with four seats and a single piston engine, making it well-suited for general aviation pilots and cross-country travel.
As the twentieth and most successful design by Al Mooney, the family of aircraft originated from development that accelerated after the company relocated to Texas. The prototype first flew in the early 1950s, leading to decades of production across multiple runs. Early models featured wooden structures in the wings and tail, though many tails were later replaced following airworthiness directives, while later production shifted entirely to metal construction.
