About the OH-6 Cayuse
The Hughes OH-6 Cayuse is an American single-engine, light observation helicopter designed for military scouting, personnel transport, and tactical support. Featuring a distinctive teardrop-shaped fuselage that provides excellent external visibility and crashworthiness, it accommodates a small crew and utilizes a nimble four-bladed main rotor.
Developed to replace older fleet helicopters for the United States Army, the type entered active combat during the Vietnam War, where it frequently operated in close tandem with attack rotorcraft. Although it eventually lost a major follow-on competition to a rival manufacturer, the aircraft design successfully transitioned into widely used commercial and international military variants that remained in service for decades.
