1977 Cessna R172K Hawk XP – VH-XPK

A genuinely well-cared-for, low-time Cessna R172K Hawk XP with excellent history, complete logbooks and a number of significant upgrades.

XPK has been a fantastic aircraft to own and is only being offered for sale because my business is moving into a Cessna 206 for increased payload.

The aircraft has a particularly interesting history, including completing the 2001 London to Sydney Air Race, and has been hangared for more than 25 years. It underwent a full strip and repainted in its original paint scheme by Aeropaint Australia in 2007, at which time all windows were also replaced.

Maintenance has been entrusted to David Robins of SWIFT Aircraft Services at Jandakot and Tony Brand of Horsham Aviation Services — two highly regarded and experienced LAMEs.

For anyone who likes the simplicity and handling of a 172 but wants more aeroplane, the Hawk XP occupies a particularly nice spot in the Cessna range. Instead of the lower-powered engine found in a conventional 172, the R172K combines a 195 HP fuel-injected Continental IO-360 with a constant-speed McCauley propeller.

XPK has also been upgraded with GAMIjector balanced fuel injectors and Flint Aero extended-range fuel tanks, giving the aircraft excellent fuel economy and endurance. At an economical cruise setting of 21" MP and 2,300 RPM (approximately 57% power), XPK achieves approximately 107 KTAS while burning just 8.1 US gal/hr (30.7 L/hr). Combined with approximately 276 litres of usable fuel, XPK offers exceptional endurance and long-range touring capability.

With approximately 3,783 hours total time, complete logbooks, long-term hangared storage and a known maintenance history, XPK represents a particularly well-sorted example of the Hawk XP.
