Description
A Russian single seat aerobatic aircraft with an all-metal airframe, low wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and supercharged Vedeneyev M14P engine developing between 360 HP to 450 HP depending on type.
It was developed in 1975 and was in production until 1986.
The Yak 50 has fine handling characteristics enhanced by a relatively high power-to-weight ratio. It has a tough and agile airframe – the type was twice World Aerobatic Champion.
It has been used as a military trainer by several countries.
G-SOCT is one of the few surviving Yak 50’s in the UK and one of the lowest timed airframes being built in 1984.
Remarks
Its clean stall speed is 100 km/h (54 knots) in straight-and-level flight, but can reach 125 km/h (67 knots) when inverted.
