Ownership history
I purchased this plane in 2019 with a partner who I bought out completely in 2022. It has been super reliable with minimal problems and has taken my family on many adventures. I’m only selling because Vtail bonanzas cannot genuinely carry 4 adults and bags without exceeding aft CG limits. I’ve saved up and have the go ahead from my wife to spend the 2X+ cost to move up to an A36 – making this great Vtail available for someone else to enjoy.
A Vtail Bonanza is an unbeatable value for 2-3 people to travel at 165 knots burning 13 gallons an hour for under 150K.
Engine history – when I purchased the plane it had 1700 hours on the engine which is TBO. It never gave me any problems but I purchased a used engine with also about 1800 hours in case I needed to swap at some point. By 2500 hours on the engine I got some oil analysis reports with increasing metal counts – nothing outrageous but with a spare sitting by I decided to swap it out. The original engine eventually was sold, rebuilt, and is now flying in a Debonair. The used engine I put in had an IRAN done at 565 hours which included new bearings, etc. I put it on the plane in 2022 and have been running it ever since and it now has 2176 hours SMOH which is 1611 since that IRAN. The price of the plane reflects that the engine is of no real value. It runs well and I am confident it would easily go another 3-500 hours reliably. Being a BB model with the 3 blade prop, it could be upgraded to a 550 at rebuild if desired. I run it at 2300 or 2400 rpm and keep the cylinder temps all below 350 even in the summer with cowl flaps and mixture.
If you can only afford 130K you won’t find a better combination of speed, reliability, and low maintenance costs than this Vtail. If you want to upgrade to a 550, better avionics, etc. in the future this has good bones – a desirable B model, no damage, no corrosion etc In the meantime you can enjoy a low cost to buy, insure, and maintain this reliable traveler.
