Detailed Description
1917 Curtiss Jenny JN-4-D - Exceptionally Rare, Museum-Quality, Airworthy
An extraordinary opportunity to acquire one of the world's most significant surviving historic aircraft. This original 1917 Curtiss Jenny JN4-D is one of only six known original examples in existence and represents a cornerstone of early American aviation.
Powered by its original-style Curtiss OX-5 engine, this Jenny was built in 1917 by Liberty Iron Works and commissioned in 1918 at Dallas Love Field, one of America's most historic aviation landmarks. Today, following an extensive restoration with over 6,000 cumulative man hours in the process, the aircraft is now displayed at the climate controlled Frontiers of Flight Museum, located at the very airport where it originally entered service.
The aircraft has "0" hours flight time since complete overhaul and restoration.
We acquired the aircraft in 1989 and undertook a meticulous restoration that spanned approximately 18 years, returning it to museum-quality condition while preserving its historic integrity. The aircraft holds an FAA Airworthiness Certificate, making it an exceptionally rare combination of historical significance and flight eligibility.
The Curtiss Jenny trained thousands of American military aviators during World War I and helped launch civil aviation in the United States. Surviving original aircraft are exceptionally scarce, with only a handful remaining. Other examples reside in premier collections, including the Smithsonian Institution, underscoring the significance of this aircraft. Please see the attached photos and videos, including an original photo of the aircraft at Dallas Love field in 1918, further establishing its provenance.
