Airframe

The cargo door has a jump door.

Damage areas from the main landing gear rolling off an I-beam which was perpendicular on a high-low-high trailer are:

1. The bottoms of both nacelles have slight damage on the forward side - two perfect nacelles will be included for parts.

2. The belly of the plane had some ribs dented, and has been opened up, and new parts purchased from Basler, and simply needs to be reassembled.

The left wing was outside and once got airborne due to the wind, and the attach angle has a bend. A perfect left wing can be included in the sale.

The purchase can include a complete set of paratrooper seats.

Interior

JR has original green primer throughout, which is a thrill. It had three pinups from Esquire magazine in 1944, which someone cut out and glued to the walls. The one from June 1944 is still there. The other two are just glue outlines now.

Detailed Description

I refer to N141JR as "JR," pronounced "jay-are." During WWII, JR was C-47A 42-100903 in the 95th Troop Carrier Squadron based at Exeter, England. The documents section here has a PDF with JR's WWII history and subsequent service. Please also find here links to videos on Youtube.

JR has not flown since March 2010. I paid for a restoration from 2010-2012, after which it seemed close to flying again before it was damaged. In August 2012, JR's left wing was damaged by a wind storm. It can be repaired, or I will donate a good left wing to replace it. In October 2012 my lease at a large hangar was terminated, and, after JR was put on a truck to move it, it rolled off the I-beam, damaging the belly below the battery box, and damaging the bottoms of the nacelles. I hired Aerometal International in February 2018 to repair these areas, and they removed skin and parts by the battery box. I did not have them return so these three areas still need to be repaired. They would probably be avaialbe to do so. These repairs might cost $100,000.

It also can make a great static display for almost zero additional cost. It is easy to move it on a truck.

The best buyer is someone who wants to honor the WWII history, and is ok spending a total of $500,000 or more on this. It should be worth $600,000 to $700,000 when done. It is also a great project for volunteers.

Remarks

1. Some DC-3 owners paint there planes with invasion stripes, but their planes were not there. JR is one of the last C-47s with true WWII history, and flew at least nine major missions. It has a long, detailed story making it a potentially big draw at airshows.

2. Basler has remanufactured almost every piece of the DC-3 making it easy to repair. It is also fun work to do.
