About the TG-6
The Taylorcraft TG-6 is a single-engine, type-certificated training glider designed to instruct beginning pilots for military troop glider operations. Modified from an existing civilian light aircraft, its layout replaces the engine with an instructor's seat in a redesigned nose, alongside a slightly enlarged tail and modified landing gear, making it suitable for flight training schools.
Early in the Second World War, military aviation branches required simplified training gliders, leading companies to convert civilian designs rapidly. The prototype modifications were completed in a matter of days, with a total of units built for the Army and Navy. After the conflict, surplus gliders were frequently converted by civilian owners into powered aircraft, and surviving examples have since been restored for museum display and airshows.
