About the Renegade Spirit

The Murphy Aircraft Mfg Renegade Spirit is a Canadian amateur-built, single-engine biplane featuring conventional landing gear and tandem seating for two. Eligible for various ultralight and experimental categories depending on jurisdiction, it suits builders looking for a traditional two-seat recreational aircraft.

The design originated from a single-seat personal project created during the designer's recovery from a non-aviation accident. After garnering attention at fly-ins, production began in British Columbia, expanding into a multi-seat variant known as the Renegade II alongside later radial-styled cowled versions. Construction relies on aluminum square tubing, rivets, and a wire-braced tail, with the upper wing featuring a sweep to enhance visibility and accessibility for the occupants.
