About the A50 Junior
The JUNKERS Aircraft A50 JUNIOR is a light-sport, two-seat German aircraft configured for sports flying and touring. Designed by Hermann Pohlmann and produced by Junkers, this all-metal monoplane features a low-mounted cantilever wing and a streamlined fuselage composed of corrugated duralumin. It suits diverse operational environments, capable of utilizing conventional landing gear, floats, or skis.
The type made its maiden flight in 1929 and was engineered to mirror the construction principles of larger passenger planes from the manufacturer. Although production figures remained modest, the aircraft achieved notable aviation milestones, including setting multiple world records for altitude, distance, and speed on a floatplane variant, as well as completing a celebrated solo journey from Berlin to Tokyo piloted by Marga von Etzdorf.
