About the Lightning

The Arion Lightning is an Australian-designed light-sport fixed-wing aircraft built around a two-seat, low-wing composite configuration. It is available to aviators as an amateur-built kit or as a factory-produced special light-sport aircraft, suited for general aviation pilots seeking high-speed performance.

Created by Pete Krotje, Ben Krotje, and Nick Otterback, the aircraft was initially styled for high-speed flight with Jabiru engines before being adapted to meet light-sport rules through wing extensions and a fixed-pitch propeller to reduce stall speeds. The kit variant features slotted flaps and a standard four-stroke powerplant, requiring several hundred hours of construction time. The type achieved recognition by setting a speed record for quick cross-country flight in its weight class.

{# the label links to these aircraft for sale, built in that span. On the label and not the count: the bands count every aircraft on the market (on_market) while the grid shows only those with a photo (live), so the count is not a promise of how many cards appear. A band cached before year_min existed renders as plain text rather than a link to an unfiltered list. #}
